The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Board has voted to expand the scope of the South Terminal Complex (STC) project at Orlando International by adding three more gates that can accommodate up to six narrowbody aircraft. The original plan called for only 16 gates to be added.
The three extra gates can be operated in either a domestic or international mode, the airport said.
Separately, the board authorized a Memorandum of Understanding with JetBlue that provides for the airline to operate both domestic and international flights from the STC when it opens. JetBlue's move to the South Terminal will enable the airline to grow to more than 100 daily departures from Orlando International in the years to come, the board said.
In addition to JetBlue, the board said that it expects 12 other airlines with international service will operate from the first phase of the new STC.
