David Pekoske, President Trump's nominee to be TSA Administrator, will testify at a confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee on Wednesday, July 21.
Pekoske retired from the Coast Guard in 2010 as Vice Commandant - a position also held by Peter Neffenger before he became TSA Administrator in 2015. Pekoske also served as Commander of Coast Guard Pacific Area and Coast Guard Defense Forces West.
In a questionnaire to the Commerce Committee, Pekoske highlighted innovation as one of the top three challenges facing TSA. "TSA has an innovation task force that formed a beneficial public-private partnership with industry, airports and airlines to foster innovation," Pekoske wrote. "This task force is working to identify and introduce technology solutions to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of checkpoints security. This outstanding effort needs to continue to receive strong support from top leadership. In addition to technological solutions, this partnership can foster innovation on process improvements using existing and new technology."
Pekoske has also served as an instructor at the Naval Postgraduate School, focusing on innovation.
