Kevin McAleenan, who is serving as Acting CBP Commissioner and has been nominated to be Commissioner, delivered a keynote address at the 17th Annual AAAE/TSA/DHS Aviation Security Summit on Wednesday. TSA Administrator David Pekoske and other agency officials spoke at the conference on Tuesday.
Among other topics, McAleenan discussed the recent growth in international travel, the importance of CBP's ongoing partnership with airports, and how advances in technology have impacted the aviation community. He praised airports for acting quickly to address international security and facilitation issues.
McAleenan also talked about the use of biometrics to manage entry and exit and how the needs are the same for the aviation industry, the federal government, and consumers. McAleenan said that CBP must continue to work with airports for the agency to be successful. He also discussed his focus on improving CBP hiring, recruitment and retention.
In related news, the Senate Finance Committee will vote on Thursday on McAleenan's nomination to be CBP Commissioner. If approved by the panel, McAleenan's nomination would then move to the Senate floor for a confirmation vote.
